Croatia Sea Fishing Regulations

For people who like to angle the country of Croatia is full of fishing opportunities.

There are two kinds of fishing and angling on the sea in Croatia: Recreational and Sport-fishing/angling.

A fishing license will be required whether you fish from the boat or the shore. ID such as a passport or identity card will be necessary to buy the permit.

From May 1st to October 1st recreational and sports fishing are going to be prohibited in the harbors/small ports/public beaches and bathing places.

The restriction will also apply to special reserves, estuaries of the river Mirna, Dragonja, Riječina, Raša, Zrmanja, Žrnovnica, Jadro, Cetina, Neretva and Rijeka Dubrovačka, as well in the Medulin bay, Lim channel and bay Klimno on the island Krk. Nature protection law regulates fishing in the area of National nature parks Brijuni, Kornati, and Mljet.

RECREATIONAL SEA FISHING

To qualify for annual licenses, you must be a Croatian or a Foreigner with a permanent residence in Croatia. In the office’s daily licenses, licenses for more days and Big Game licenses are issued.

Daily licenses and permits for more days cost:
60 kn – 1 day
150 kn – 3 days
300 kn – 7 days
700 kn – 30 days

The cost for licenses for BIG-GAME fishing:
120 kn – 1 day
200 kn – 3 days
600 kn – 7 days
1500 kn – 30 days

Further Regulations
5 kg of fish and/or marine organisms for recreational fishing is the maximum daily catch allowed.

RECREATIONAL fishing tools and gear which are allowed to be used:

  • maximum two fishing lines, with max. 3 hooks on each line (Croatian word: ODMET);
  • maximum two fishing lines, with max. 3 hooks on each line (Croatian word: KANCHENICA);
  • maximum two trolling fishing lines, with max. 3 hooks on each line (Croatian word: PANULA);
  • maximum two trolling lines, with hooks on each line for catching Cephalopods;

BIG GAME fishing tools and gear which are permitted for use:

  • maximum two fishing rods with reels, with maximum two hooks per rod;
  • One piece of blue-fin tuna or swordfish or spearfish with obligated checking-in of the catch to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Rural Development (Fisheries Directorate) is the maximum daily catch.

SPORT-FISHING ON THE SEA

THERE ARE SEVERAL KINDS OF FISHING LICENSES:

  • Daily
  • License for extend days
  • Yearly

The Croatian Sport Sea Fishing Association sells the permits too. Permits are valid only with membership certificate of the Croatian Sport Sea Fishing Association (Hrvatski Savez za Športski Ribolov na Moru) or membership certificate of an equivalent foreign association.

Sports fishing for periods under one year this are the tools and gears which are allowed:

  • maximum two fishing lines, with max. 3 hooks on each line (Croatian word: ODMET)
  • maximum two fishing lines, with max. 3 hooks on each line (Croatian word: KANCHENICA);
  • maximum two down-riggers/trolling fishing lines, with max. 3 hooks on each line (Croatian word: PANULA);
  • maximum two underwater spear-guns;

With YEARLY SPORTS LICENSE (Croatian and foreign citizens with a permanent stay in Croatia) additional fishing tools and gear are allowed.

No artificial power devices allowed Spear Fishermen must move about in and under the water only with his own strength. Diving Grear which enable underwater breathing is not allowed during underwater fishing.Underwater Fishing is permitted during daylight hours from dawn till dusk. Also, the usage of the underwater lamp is allowed.

FISHING LICENCE / FISHING PERMITS CONTACTS IN CROATIA

In Croatia, whether sport, game or fresh-water fishing, you need a license to fish. The agencies and offices that sell fishing permits are below.
In Croatia to fish, it is necessary to have a fishing license or fishing permit that is available from Croatian local offices or travel agents. The set fee must be pay and off you go. In Croatia, there is no age limit for fishing. Before embarking on a fishing expedition, it is necessary to obtain a license.Proof of identity is required to get a permit such as (passport, driving license, etc.) Along the coast in all towns, fishing permits are issued by tourist agencies and offices. For recreational angling, hand trolling, long lining, underwater speargun fishing and tuna fishing licenses are issued.  The whole Adriatic is open for fishing generally, but special limitations are applied in the area of national parks (Kornati, Krka, Brijuni, Mljet), and for some smaller locations.

FISHING TACKLE AND EQUIPMENT ALLOWED:

1. Fishing tackle

  • fishing-line, in all up to two (2) pieces, with three (3) hooks on each rod at the most,
  • fishing line with a lead weight, in all up to two (2) pieces, with three (3) hooks on each line at the most,
  • fishing-line for trailing or hand-trolling, in all up to two (2) pieces, with three (3) hooks on each hand-roll at the most,
  • fishing line with a hook for catching cephalopods, in all up to two (2) pieces.

2. Spear-fishing gun: spear-fishing gun, in all up to two (2) pieces.

Licenses are issued for performing of recreation-sports fishing at sea for Croatian or foreign citizens:
1. for one (1) day,
2. for three (3) days,
3. for seven (7) days,
4. for thirty (30) days,
5. for the actual calendar year (annual licenses).

Licenses for one (1), three (3), seven (7) and thirty (30) days are issued to Croatian and foreign citizens.
For fishing with the angling fishing tackle, and particularly for fishing with the spear-fishing gun daily licenses are issued.

Depending on the amount of the compensation for daily licenses, it is allowed to fish only with the spear-fishing gun:
1. 60.00 kn for a permit for one (1) day,
2. 150.00 kn for a permit for three (3) days,
3. 250.00 kn for a permit for seven (7) days,
4. 500.00 kn for a permit for thirty (30) days.
